Next steps for housing in Scotland: investment, delivery and meeting housing needs

Morning, Thursday, 7th December 2017

Central Edinburgh

THIS EVENT IS CPD CERTIFIED

This seminar will provide a timely opportunity for delegates to discuss next steps for the housing sector, following the Scottish Government’s recent £1.75 billion investment in affordable housing and the planning bill expected later in 2017, which may lead to changes to planning fees, local development plans and piloting of Simplified Planning Zones.

Delegates will consider next steps for the delivery of new homes within the context of the potential changes to the planning system; the Scottish Government’s target of delivering 50,000 affordable homes between 2016 and 2021; and the introduction of the Housing Infrastructure Fund, which will offer grants and loans to private and public organisations.

Sessions will examine the opportunities for unlocking land for new developments; the potential use of less traditional construction methods and the further steps the sector can take to ensure homes are designed to meet the needs of different groups, support choice, and improve access to the market.

Attendees will also discuss the challenges for ensuring that the construction workforce has the necessary skills and flexibility to respond to changing sector demands, and the priorities for managing further potential implications of Brexit for housing, including on supply chains and investment.
