Following the publication of the Scottish Government’s Strategic Framework for Action on Palliative and End of Life Care in December 2015, and the Health and Sport Committee’s inquiry into palliative care which published its final report in November 2015, this seminar provided a timely opportunity to discuss the future of palliative and end of life care in Scotland.
Delegates considered the challenges facing the implementation of the Strategic Framework - which outlines the 2021 vision that all who need palliative care have access to it, and which addresses areas such as service improvement, early identification of needs, staff education and the collection of data.
Further sessions discussed the impact of integration on palliative and end of life care.
The seminar brought together policymakers from the Scottish Government and Parliament along with key stakeholders in health and social care with an interest in palliative and end of life care as well as, local government, academia, and representatives of the trade and national press.
