The TV market in Scotland: audiences, commissioning and the future of the BBC

October 2016

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference examined the future of the TV market in Scotland - focusing on priorities for serving audiences, commissioning and for supporting independent production, as well as the way in which the BBC is governed, regulated and funded.
It was a timely opportunity to discuss the Scottish Government’s recently updated blueprint for broadcasting, outlining their expectations in regards to the license fee, commissioning and the role of Ofcom, in the context of the BBC White Paper which places greater emphasis on devolved content.
Delegates also discussed how all broadcasters can best respond to the rapidly changing media market - and to new patterns of audience demand and demographic changes - following concerns over the quality and quantity of programming serving Scottish audiences.
Further sessions assessed options for addressing the challenges facing independent production - including infrastructure, workforce and the impact of the EU referendum result on the sector.
