This seminar examined next steps and key issues for implementing the £1.1bn Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal signed by the UK and Scottish Government’s in July 2017.
Delegates discussed the need for innovation, inclusion and cohesiveness to be at the heat for the Deal. Delegates also examined priorities for developing the infrastructure needed to support accelerated growth in Edinburgh and the South East, including funding to advance projects such as data innovation centres, as well as addressing the housing and transport requirements of the City Region.
Further sessions assessed the support needed for key growth sectors, in particular encouraging greater collaboration between higher education and business, including proposals for a network of business incubators, improving digital connectivity and development of a regional skills plan aimed at disadvantaged groups. Delegates also discussed the Scottish and UK Government’s perspective on the Deal, including the need for it to deliver inclusive economic growth.
