This seminar was a timely opportunity to consider the implementation of realistic medicine within the NHS in Scotland.
Sessions examined key steps needed to support and engage the health and social care workforce in realising realistic medicine, particularly with regard to reducing waste and variation in care, whilst promoting a culture of innovation - as well as issues around skills and resources.
Delegates also discussed priorities for improving Scotland’s public health through a shift to preventative care and how a move to realistic medicine can build on best practice in international healthcare.
Further discussion assessed how to address issues around embedding the person-centred approach to care identified within realistic medicine against a backdrop of limited resources, looking at examples of best practice and potential changes to the use of targets and indicators.
