Taking place one year after the launch of The Scottish Government’s Mental Health Strategy, this seminar was a timely opportunity to examine the progress made since its publication, and to consider further action that can be taken in this important area of policy.

Following the establishment of the Youth Commission on Mental Health Services, delegates assessed priorities for raising the standard of support for children and young people within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) - in education and more widely - and for improving staff training, care pathways, and access to counselling and further support. Delegates also considered the role of Personal and Social Education (PSE) in light of The Scottish Government’s review on the subject.

Later sessions examined priorities for intervention beyond traditional health settings, in areas such as the workplace, as The Scottish Government consults on its recently released draft suicide prevention plan, which includes proposals to embed mental health training in workplaces. Finally, delegates considered ways in which to improve the broader delivery of mental health services and break down stigma surrounding mental health.
