Following both the conclusion of the CMA’s investigation into the energy market and publication of the Scottish Affairs Committee report into renewable energy in Scotland, and timed to coincide with the development of the Scottish Government’s draft energy strategy, this seminar provided an opportunity to discuss next steps for energy policy and market reform.
Delegates considered the future of the energy mix, looking at investment, innovation and sustainability in light of emerging issues arising from the EU referendum and following cuts to renewable subsidies. Sessions also focused on challenges surrounding the development of a flexible energy system - including consumer demand and the delivery and usage of energy - and the next steps for the energy market within the wider UK context.
This seminar brought together Members of the Scottish Parliament and senior officials from the Scottish Government, representatives from the energy sector including businesses operating in the renewable - including solar power and onshore and offshore wind - and non-renewable energy sectors, the environmental sectors, their suppliers and advisors; representatives from local government and interest groups; along with academics and commentators.
