Taking place two years into sportscotland’s corporate strategy for 2015-2019, Raising the Bar, and following the publication of the UK Government’s Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation, this seminar provided a timely opportunity for delegates to discuss the future of sport in Scotland - bringing together key stakeholders in sport, including sports teams and clubs, governing bodies, community groups, voluntary associations, schools and representatives from health, local authorities and funding bodies.
Delegates discussed the key challenges facing sport in Scotland including the need for increased funding and investment in both grassroots and elite level sport, improved outcomes and representation for women, ethnic minorities and those with disabilities, and developing the profile of Scottish sport at home and abroad.
Further sessions examined ways to increase volunteering, coaching and leadership opportunities across all age groups and social backgrounds, with particular focus being placed on participation rates in schools - and approaches to increasing physical activity both within schools and in the broader context of public health in Scotland, whilst delivering sustainable community-led programmes and developing high quality national and regional facilities.
