THIS EVENT IS CPD CERTIFIED

This seminar will bring together policymakers and key stakeholders to examine the next steps in delivering city region deals in Scotland.

Delegates will assess the progress in their delivery to date - particularly as Audit Scotland commences work on its first performance audit.

They will examine how to ensure that implementation aligns with UK and Scottish Government priorities and strategies, as well as the next steps in shaping and developing the next phase of city region deals in Scotland.

Attendees will also examine the next steps in developing proposals to meet local needs, as well as putting in place effective governance systems - including joint committees, cabinets or accountable bodies - and promote collaboration and the sharing of best practice across the Scotland and the UK.

Sessions will consider the delivery of key projects - particularly in the transport network, telecoms infrastructure and smart cities - including discussion on selecting projects, ensuring they fit with wider national strategies, and developing coordination between city region deal areas in major transport projects.

There will also be discussion on tackling the challenges to the development of infrastructure projects - including securing funding and ensuring local authorities work together in the decision-making process to deliver projects quickly and effectively.

Those attending will also assess how to build Scotland’s skills base - particularly through the use of Regional Skills Assessments to meet future skills needs - as well as enhancing the role of universities through the development of centres of research and excellence, and will examine the latest thinking in how local authorities can lead on delivering local economic models, promote community involvement and deliver inclusive growth.
