Protecting and supporting vulnerable children - next steps for the Independent Care Review and the Child Protection Improvement Programme

July 2018

The seminar focused on The Scottish Government’s current wide-ranging policy reform agenda aimed at improving lives for vulnerable children in Scotland.

Delegates considered the progress of the Independent Review of Scotland’s Care System for Children and examined key challenges around funding, the workforce and regulation.

Further sessions on the day looked at next steps for reforming child protection in Scotland, focusing on the Scottish Government’s ‘getting it right for every child’ approach, legal issues surround the Child Protection Improvement Programme and what might be done to address the challenges it poses for local authorities and schools.

Shortly after every Scotland Policy Conferences seminar, a briefing document is produced. This is distributed to all delegates on the day as well as to our policymaker contacts in government, and to stakeholders more widely.

A seminar publication provides a timely record of proceedings, and acts as a guide to the latest thinking on current policy issues for those unable to be at the event.
